Error code F11
Appliance Steam Oven
Quick answer

F11 means water cannot drain from the steam generator, usually because of limescale or blocked hoses. Descale as described in the operating instructions.

Model compatibility

Miele reuses codes across series and model years, so F11 may mean something different on another appliance or generation. Confirm this against your model’s documentation and record your full model number before acting.

Plain language

What this code means

Water cannot drain from the steam generator (limescale or blocked hoses).

F11 on a Miele steam oven or combination steam oven means water cannot drain from the steam generator.

Limescale in the drain

Descale the steam oven as described in the operating instructions. If the fault persists, contact Miele Customer Service.

Other causes named

  • Blocked hoses or hoses sticking together.
  • Limescale on the fill level electrode.
  • Mineral and salt deposits in the steam generator from highly mineralised water.

Settings that reduce the risk

On models DGC 6500 to DGC 6800 and DGC 7XXX, the Automatic rinse function in the Settings menu should be switched on, so dissolved minerals and salts are rinsed out before they dry on. On all 6000 and 7000 series appliances, set the water hardness to the maximum level; deposits are then removed early and F11 becomes less likely.

Descaling in a highly mineralised area

Use a commercially available liquid descaling agent with food-grade citric acid. Switch the oven off and on, restart descaling and follow the display. When asked for descaling tablets, put about 100 ml of the liquid agent in the water container instead and top up with warm fresh water. Finish the prompts. If F11 appears during or right after descaling, run one more descaling with fresh water only, to wash soluble deposits off the electrode. Do not repeat it with the agent or a stronger mix.

Related codes

F10 is a water inlet fault, the opposite direction. F196 covers water that could not be pumped out of the cooking compartment.
