Error codeF20, Heating fault
ApplianceWasher
Quick answer
F20 (Heating fault) on a Miele washer or washer-dryer. The manual explains Thermostop and a power-off restart.
Model compatibility
Miele reuses codes across series and model years, so F20, Heating fault may mean something different on another appliance or generation. Confirm this against your model’s documentation and record your full model number before acting.
Plain language
What thiscode means
F20 is a heating fault; the Thermostop has been activated or there is a fault with the heating.
A Miele washing machine or washer-dryer shows F20, or the words Heating fault, when the Thermostop has been activated or the heating itself has a fault.
What Thermostop does
Thermostop makes sure the temperature you chose for the programme is reached. It starts when the machine has not got there within the specified time, and the remaining-time figure stands still while it works. As soon as the water is hot enough the programme resumes and the countdown carries on.
If the heating has a technical fault
Isolate the machine from the electricity supply: turn it off at the wall socket and withdraw the plug, or disconnect the fuse.
Give it at least 2 minutes.
Restore power and switch the machine on.
Run the programme from the start.
A fault that persists goes to Miele Customer Service, or to an online repair appointment.
Related codes
F2 is an open circuit in the circuit of the heating/water temperature sensor.
Do not attempt repairs involving electrical components, gas, water lines, refrigerant or sealed systems. Unplug the appliance if it is safe to reach the outlet, and leave internal diagnostics to a qualified technician.
